Situated in South-East Galway on the northern shore of Lough Derg (Irelands biggest inland lake) on the mejestic River Shannon, Portumna is truely the "Gateway to the West of Ireland".

This splendid lakebordered forest contains a wildlife sanctuary and supports a wide diversity of flora & fauna. The many species of wildlife including a herd of approx. 100 deer and the biggest inland breeding colony of cormorants can be enjoyed by following the well signposted nature trails.
Portumna also provides various restaurants, shops & pubs offering nightly entertainment - traditional Irish music & dance sessions, poetry reading etc.
